Ford China Vehicle Sales Exceed the Half-Million Mark

JACKSON, Mich - The first-half of the year has gone immensely well for Ford China. Vehicle Sales have exceeded the half-million mark with 549,256 vehicles sold since the start of 2014. This is a 35 percent increase in sales compared to this time last year, which totalled 407,474 vehicles sold. Such a significant increase in sales has proven the success of the China growth plan. Ford China has worked diligently to grow their sales network, increase capacity and hire exceptional employees to deliver the high quality, safety, fuel efficiency and smart technologies that China customers are constantly searching for.

The Ford Focus, Ford Kuga, Ford Mondeo and the Ford EcoSport have continued to be hot commodities for the last six months; June sales alone increased 17 percent with 87,783 vehicles sold! The Ford Focus nameplate led CAF, Ford's passenger car joint venture, sales for the first half of the year with 201,464 vehicles sold, 33,614 of those were sold during the month of June. The Ford Mondeo sold 59,726 vehicles the first half; a 124 percent increase from the first half of 2013. The Kuga and EcoSport SUVs each increased their sales by selling 66,225 and 33,403 units; up 78 and 103 percent from this time last year.

Ford China Vehicle Sales Exceeding the Half-Million Mark is one of several factors that will contribute to the success that lies ahead. Last month, Ford opened its US $350 million transmission plant in Chongqing -the first transmission plant in the Asia Pacific region. The CAFTP, Changan Ford Transmission Plant, will produce roughly 400,000 units a year to meet the growing demand from Chinese consumers.

Ford Debuts All-New Inflatable Airbag for 2015 Mustang

JACKSON, Mich - Just when you thought the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang couldn't be any more advanced, Ford Debuts an All-New Inflatable Airbag for the 2015 Mustang that will provide restraint protection within a smaller, lighter package and will even allow for a roomier interior. The new airbag is part of a standard comprehensive safety system which will be introduced later this year. The standard comprehensive safety system includes a package of sensors, safety belt anchor pretensioners, improved exterior lighting and double the number of airbags on the all-new Mustang. 

Ford's Debut of an All-New Inflatable Airbag for the 2015 Mustang did not come easy, the technology required 15 U.S. patents, with still more being filed. Unlike traditional airbag fabric, the new airbag is made up of a pliable, injection-molded plastic bladder and is sandwiched between the inner and outer glove box door panels. In the case of an impact, an inflator fills the bladder and extends the entire glove box outer door panel toward the front passenger's legs. After it has been deployed, the outer door provides cushioning similar to a traditional knee airbag. 

The glove box-integrated airbag is able to operate at a lower inflation pressure because it extends out directly from the instrument panel and distributes the impact load over a larger area than a conventional airbag. The new airbag design is 65 percent lighter with an inflator that is 75 percent smaller than a traditional knee airbag inflator. The airbag's packaging is much more discreet, which gives designers more flexibility in moving the dashboard closer to the windshield and increasing the amount of roominess in the cabin.
