Ford to Manufacture the 2016 Ranger in Nigeria

Ford to Manufacture the 2016 Ranger in Nigeria

JACKSON, Mich. – Should you just get over the idea of Ford Motor Co. bringing the Ranger back to the states? Unfortunately, it’s looking that way now that Ford will manufacture the 2016 Ranger in Nigeria, but, of course, not in the U.S.

While we don’t think you should feel bitter about the decision – or the fact that over 148 other global markets across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa have the Ranger but you don’t – we definitely understand why you might be a little upset.

The last Ranger that rolled of a U.S. assembly line was in St. Paul, Minn., back in December 2011. It has only been a few years since a next-generation Ranger was available to American truck buyers, but if you’re one of them it probably feels more like an eon.

Not to cause you even more heartache over the fact that Ford will manufacture the 2016 Ranger in Nigeria, but the automaker’s popular midsize pickup is already making a huge name for itself through some impressive specifications. Along with its versatility that makes it a great off-road and city vehicle, the new Ranger can two around 8,000 pounds, can wade through over 2 feet of water, and was artfully designed to conquer steep ascents and descents.

Are you feeling pretty jealous right now? You’re feeling jealous right now.

The good news is the 2016 Ranger could be a catalyst for improving the lives of Nigerians. The new Ranger will be assembled in a new Ford plant located in Ikeja, a suburb of Lagos, with body parts and components imported from South Africa. The assembly plant will create 180 new jobs and produce around 5,000 units annually that are exclusively sold in Nigeria.

While we’re as envious as you are that customers in practically every other global market outside of North America get to sit behind the wheel of the 2016 Ranger, we’re also very proud to be a Ford dealer knowing that Ford cares about providing feasible transportation, jobs, and community improvement all over the world.
