Halloween Driving Tips to Keep Trick-or-Treaters Safe

Halloween Driving Tips to Keep Trick-or-Treaters Safe

JACKSON, Mich. –– While it’s important for parents to imbue safety in their kids on nights like Halloween, it’s also the responsibility of drivers to make sure neighborhood streets aren’t dangerous. If you’re planning on hitting the road on Oct. 31, follow these Halloween driving tips to keep trick-or-treaters safe.

Try not to drive in neighborhoods.
You might not be able to avoid neighborhood streets completely, but you should avoid them as much as possible. Residential areas are where drivers pose the most danger to trick-or-treaters on Halloween, seeing as most kids are more concerned with filling bags with candy than they are with looking for vehicles coming their way. That’s why the best way to avoid any hazards is to simply not drive through neighborhoods, unless you absolutely have to.

Get rid of your lead foot.
Halloween is not the time to be speeding, especially in a residential area. In fact, you might even want to consider driving slower than the speed limit when you’re in a neighborhood. The fact is, most trick-or-treaters are going to cross streets without looking both ways. Even if you’re going the speed limit you could be travelling at a speed that inhibits your ability to make a quick decision or to stop in time. If you drive slowly it gives you plenty of time to become aware of your surroundings as you move down a street, and plenty of time to hit the brakes if need be.

Shine your brightest lights in dark places.
Some neighborhoods don’t have streetlights to illuminate their streets, which can make it difficult for drivers to see anything beyond the limited scope of visibility their headlights create. In these cases, it’s best to use your brights––fog lights––to broaden your visibility. This will allow you to spot trick-or-treaters further away, keeping you aware of the dark places where kids are lurking on Halloween.

Stop and look at stop signs.
Halloween is not the night to be rolling through stop signs, although you should always come to a complete stop at stop signs no matter what time or day it is. But on Oct. 31, when kids are running to and fro in search of candy, it’s more necessary than ever to come to complete stops. This gives you time to look around for kids who might be at the intersection, whereas rolling through limits your awareness.

Slow down to look for kids at intersections.
Not all intersections have stop signs or yield signs, but on Halloween it’s a good idea to slow down and look around before going through intersections anyway. Again, many trick-or-treaters are unconcerned with vehicles because they’re too focused on how much candy they can collect on Halloween. By yielding at all intersections, you can take time to look for kids who might be ready to run in front of you without thinking.

At our Lincoln dealer near Mason, MI, we want trick-or-treaters and drivers to stay safe on Halloween. The best ways we can make that happen are to provide our customers with Halloween driving tips to keep trick-or-treaters safe, but also to provide them with quality new Lincoln cars that showcase all of the most impressive safety features of the 21st century. Ford-Loving Farmers Cut Corn Maze Into the Shape of an F-150

Ford-Loving Farmers Cut Corn Maze Into the Shape of an F-150

JACKSON, Mich. –– One of the most traditional fall activities for families to have fun with is visiting a local corn maze, but this year you might want to head out of state to Napolean, Ohio, to navigate these Ford-loving farmers’ corn maze cut into the shape of an F-150.

The seven-acre corn maze at Leaders Farms was carefully cut into an image of the the latest edition of the Ford F-150, and it’s about as close as corn comes to imitating the aluminum alloy, half-ton pickup.

When the owners of Leaders Farms decided to use the F-150 as their corn maze theme this fall, they weren’t simply being whimsical. “We are a multi-generation Ford-driving family,” said Kristin Leaders.

Leaders’ husband Brad is just as much a genuine Ford fanatic as her. After seeing the most recent F-150 design in a magazine, he decided it would be a perfect tribute to the automaker and an expression of his passion for the pickup.

But carving the image of an F-150 into a cornfield is no easy task. It’s a year-round process of planning, designing, and maintaining the field. When it actually comes down to creating the image, the Leaders’ had to incorporate GPS technologies that enabled them to carve a precise image.

The Ford-loving farmers cut their corn maze into the shape of an F-150, but the Ford theme doesn’t end there. Leaders Farms also puts on a show with Big Jack, a pumpkin cannon mounted to the chassis of a restored Ford F-450. For extra fun, Leaders Farms also takes care of 13 goats, 40 cows, and their barnyard dog Scout.

While there are plenty of local fall activities around our Ford dealer near Gregory, MI for you to enjoy, we couldn’t help but give a shout-out to Leaders Farms for taking the F-150 to a new level. Then again, nothing will ever beat simply getting into a new Ford car or truck and driving it down a long road, maybe one lined with cornfields.

Ford Helps Feed the Homeless Out of a Converted Ford Transit Van

Ford Helps Feed the Homeless Out of a Converted Ford Transit Van

JACKSON, Mich. –– As we move towards the end of the year and prepare for festive celebrations that will take place at tables set with warm, holiday meals, Ford Motor Co. is helping feed the homeless out of a converted Ford Transit van with The Salvation Army.

“Ford is proud to support The Salvation Army’s mobile meals program as part of our commitment to help build strong communities everywhere our employees live and work,” said Janet Lawson, director, Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company. “Transit – America’s best-selling commercial van – has the size and flexibility that make it the right vehicle for this program.”

The Ford Transit 350 HD with a 3.5L V6 engine is customized with a sink, refrigerator, food preparation space, service window, and cabinets. The Salvation Army is serving meals out of the Ford Transit to homeless men and women in Washington as part of the organizations Grate Patrol program.

The Grate Patrol program is a nightly venture involving the delivery of 150 healthy meals, snacks, and hydration throughout Washington. Ford is one of the chief donors who helped fund The Salvation Army’s converted Transit van to feed the homeless, and Ford employees also gave their time to help serve meals from the van during its debut night.

The Salvation Army distributed more than 1.3 million meals to the homeless and others in need of something to eat since Grate Patrol began more than three decades ago, according to Ford. The converted transit van is a boon to The Salvation Army’s efforts to continue to distribute nutritious food to homeless men and women who have difficulty acquiring it.

Maintain Your Car During Fall or Risk Car Trouble During Winter

Maintain Your Car During Fall or Risk Car Trouble During Winter

JACKSON, Mich. –– No one likes spending time on a Saturday getting an oil change or other auto service taken care of for their vehicle, but the reality is you need to maintain your car during fall or risk car trouble during winter. As the autumn foliage spreads vibrant colors across the state, make sure you cover these routine maintenance needs so your vehicle is set for the remainder of the season.

  1. Don’t drive with dangerous brakes. It’s extremely dangerous to drive a vehicle whose brakes haven’t been inspected or replaced for a long time. Fall is the perfect season to have your brakes replaced so that your vehicle is prepared to stop on a dime when the roads ice over. If you’re hearing screeching, grinding, or having trouble stopping when you brake, stop by the Seymour Ford Lincoln Service Center to have a technician inspect your brakes using a Motorcraft Multi-Point Inspection Report Card.

  2. Take time to check your tire treads. Good brake performance is futile when your tires aren’t in good shape. If they look bald and tread-bare, or you feel your vehicle slipping on slick roads papered with dead leaves after a heavy rain this autumn, let the ASE Certified Technicians at our Blue Oval Certified Service Department provide you with the highest quality tires for all makes and models. Learn more here.

  3. Beware of a bad battery. You might assume you’re set for fall because your vehicle is still running, but when the temperatures plummet and your vehicle won’t go, you can bet it’s due to a bad battery. Avoid the hassle of breaking down on a blustery autumn day and flagging someone down for a jump. Look under your hood and see if there’s any corrosion around the battery terminals. If there is, chances are you should head over to our service center to purchase a new battery.

  4. Consider your engine’s cooling system. Right now you might not feel the need to use your heating vents; you can still drive around with the windows down on some days. But that doesn’t mean your engine will be ready for impending chilly days. Autumn is a transition period in which you should make sure your engine cooling system is working on coolant under 24,000 miles of usage. Coolant keeps your vehicle from overheating, but also your radiator fluid from freezing. It also provides heat through your vents and prevents you from getting frostbite on your morning commute when its below freezing. Our service staff can inspect your cooling system for you to make sure it’s prepared for cold days in the later weeks of autumn.

  5. Whisk it all away with new wiper blades. Sure, April showers bring May flowers, but rainy fall days are a thing, too. Leaves, pine needles, dust, acorns, and a slew of other things that fall in fall are about to clog up the area above your hood where your wiper blades rest. All of that autumn junk plus a deluge are sure to make driving a hazy situation if your wiper blades aren’t up for the job. Other factors to consider are frost in the morning, and even a potential light snowfall as we near winter. Make sure you can see the fall colors when you’re driving this fall and get a new set of wiper blades.

Follow our advice and take time to maintain your car during fall or risk trouble during winter. At our Ford dealer near Mason, MI, we can handle all of your fall car care. Seymour Ford Lincoln is located at 2601 Seymour Road in Jackson, Michigan 49201. We will work hard to ensure you never leave our dealership unsatisfied!
