JACKSON, Mich. –– More than 5 million SYNC-equipped Ford vehicles, dating back to the 2011 model year, are eligible for a software update. This update Ford SYNC update offers Apple Siri Eyes-Free capability, which allows iPhone users to access additional iPhone features hands-free.
SYNC was the first entertainment and communications system to most affordably offer voice-activated technology to control smartphones. SYNC is also the world's leading system with more than 12 million vehicles on the road. SYNC was built to be updatable so customers continually get the most out of their smartphones while on the road.
Siri Eyes-Free is a great feature that allows drivers to stay connected while keeping their eyes on the road. Users can activate Siri with a long press of the voice recognition button on the steering wheel to then ask Siri for requests such as:
- Making calls to contacts
- Sending and receiving audible text messages
- Asking about the weather
- Selecting and playing music
- Looking up phone numbers for points of interest (i.e. restaurants)
- Asking for directions through Apple Maps
The software update is available for vehicles equipped with the second generation of SYNC or MyFord Touch, which range from model years 2011 to 2016. If you're the owner of an eligible vehicle and are interested in updating, you can access the downloadable update here: http://owner.ford.com/.
