Preparing Your Vehicle for the Winter Months Ahead

Preparing Your Vehicle for the Winter Months Ahead
JACKSON, Mich. - And just like that, Old Man Winter is standing at our door step. With all of the craziness this time of the year brings, we sometimes let a few things slip off of our "To-Do" list. One of the first to go? Car care. Yes, it can be somewhat of a hassle, but by preparing your vehicle for the winter months ahead you will save yourself a MAJOR headache later on.

If you take a few moments out of your day to review these helpful tips, your vehicle will be ready to handle the snow, sleet, and slush without any trouble at all! Here is how you can prepare your vehicle for the winter months ahead –––

  • Let's start from the inside out. We suggest investing in rubber matts for the inside of your vehicle. A few extra bucks can help you to avoid getting moisture into your carpet and will prevent those yucky white salt stains.
  • Take a look at your lights. With the days getting shorter and darker, it is a wise idea to ensure that all of your lights are working properly.
  • Replace your windshield wiper blades and refill your washer fluid. It is no secret that snow, ice, and slush bombard our windshields in the winter and disrupt our view, which is why we highly advise you keep your wiper blades at their best!
  • Consider a half full gas tank as empty. Is it a hassle to fill up more often in the winter? Absolutely. However, below zero temperatures and a half full gas tank do not mix and increase the chances of your fuel tank freezing up.
  • Keep a Winter Safety Kit in your vehicle at all times. If anything should happen - say you didn't listen to our previous tip and you run out of gas - it is extremely beneficial to have a safety kit on hand. Your kit should include things like a blanket, a flashlight with extra batteries, a first-aid kit, snacks, a windshield scraper, and booster cables.
  • One of the best ways to ensure your vehicle is ready for winter is to keep it up to date on regular routine maintenance. The technicians at the Seymour Ford Lincoln Service Center are here to help you with any of your vehicle needs!
