JACKSON, Mich. - While Microsoft will no longer be overseeing Ford's operating network for their latest infotainment system, they still will be contributing to SYNC 3 as cloud-support that will work to remotely update the systems within all Ford and Lincoln vehicles.

Ford and Microsoft's partnership continues with SYNC 3, Ford's latest infotainment system that will soon replace MyFord Touch and MyLincoln Touch come this summer. Microsoft's Azure global cloud-based network will serve vehicle owners by wirelessly upgrading their SYNC 3 systems. Customers will not even realize that the software was updated until they receive a notification that the upgrade is complete.

Along with the seamless upgrading tactics, Microsoft's cloud will also make it possible for drivers to complete some remote activities like starting the vehicle or checking the fuel gauge. Thanks to Ford and Microsoft continued partnership, Ford SYNC 3 will recognize vehicle owners use of the system as well as their driving habits. Ford is hoping that with this obtainable information and their continued relationship with Microsoft, they will be able to provide customers with an even broader array of connectivity services.

Given the various resorts of glitches with Ford's previous SYNC system, the automaker opted to use Blackberry's QNX on-board operating system this time around. SYNC 3 will feature a simpler layout, larger fonts, and a easy-to-use touchscreen that can swipe up, down, or across. All Ford vehicles within the United States are expected to be equipped with the new system by the end of 2016, followed by the rest of the Ford vehicles around the globe by 2018.
