Before You Leave
First things first, if you haven't arranged a hotel room it's not too late. In fact, you could even save yourself some money by taking advantage of last minute deals, just make sure to research your destination and take a look at reviews.
This one should be obvious, but make sure to plan for delays whether you are traveling to your destination by plane, train, or automobile. Allow extra time for traffic delays, weather issues, delayed flights, backed up security checkpoints, etc. You can prevent becoming stressed out when you know that you have allotted extra time in your travel plans.
Should anything unfortunate occur during your weekend travels, it is always a good idea to have copies of important documents on hand. Before you leave, make copies of your drivers license/passport, credit cards, etc. and keep them in a safe place should you need them for backup.

Like we said above, when en route to your destination, make sure to allow extra time for any delays you may encounter.
